In 1925. a special institution was founded in Novi Sad by Mrs. Jelena Kon. She decided to open the doors of the institution run by her to everyone in need, regardless of religious or national affiliation. Regarding its activities, the Slice of Bread Center was a modern institution with a kindergarten, milk kitchen for both schoolchildren and babies and medical service supply. In order that the association had more donations, Mrs. Jelena Kon organized numerous charity concerts. Thus, in Novi Sad hosted, among others, Bronislaw Huberman (1928), Artur Rubinstein (1929), Josephine Baker...
Unfortunately, during the Nazi occupation Mrs. Jelena Kon was arrested, tortured and then killed.
